TAKE IT ALL BACK • Eye Focus – 10/20/24
Many of us are frustrated, discouraged, struggling and disappointed. We are where we are and aren’t sure how we got here! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Our vision, our focus is the issue that must be corrected. We can reclaim the life God created us to live and root out the dysfunctionality through a deep connection with Jesus Christ…by fixing our eyes on Him.
Our vision is impaired when our eyes aren’t functioning properly. An injury or trauma can cause swelling, bleeding; vision becomes blurred, or blindness may occur. It’s the same with our spiritual vision. When life has dealt disabling blows, we are affected. Even when things get back to normal, it often leaves a mark. That mark affects our view of people, situations, and even life in general. We may assume a victim’s mentality, harbor unforgiveness, and have a darkened view of life. How long will you be defined by the worst day of your life? The issue is not the thing you went through, it’s how you see the thing you went through. God wants to take that trauma and bring healing, victory. He wants you to see how His mighty power brought you through and how you can help others who need God just like you.
Pressure in the eye also causes vision problems. An eye check-up includes a pressure check to indicate disease and eye health. We live in a world full of pressure. Pressure to perform, succeed, be healthy, fit, accepted. A submarine can be crushed by the external pressure of the deep sea, but equalizing the pressure inside allows it to withstand tremendous pressure without damage. You can equalize the pressure you feel by allowing the Holy Spirit to breathe power into your life. God on the inside keeps you from imploding when outside pressure builds.
Our vision becomes impaired when we don’t have enough light. We’ve all gotten up in the night and attempted to navigate our familiar home without turning on a light. We usually end up with a bump or bruise in the process.
The eye dilates to allow in as much light as is needed to see clearly. God wants you to open the eyes of your heart and let His light in. The light is available, just let it in! Jesus is the light of the world, right there beside you.
To see clearly, we need to focus! What we are focused on affects our view, our interpretation of life, of people, of our world. Our focus drives us, and when we are focusing on the wrong thing, it causes damage. Focusing on pain, worry and fear leaves us feeling ripped off. The wrong focus can destroy the things and people you love. Hebrews 12:1-2 says to remove anything that keeps you from focusing on Jesus and look only to Him.
Flood your life with light! Connect with God, spend time in worship, in God’s word, and with God’s people!
Scriptures: Psalm 18:28 (NLT), 101:3 (ESV); Matthew 6:22-23 (NLT); Luke 4:18; (NLT); John 9:39-40 (TLB); Hebrews 12:1-2 (NCV); Ephesians 1:16-18 (NLT); Psalm 13:3 (NLT)
Verses: You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. (Ps 18:28) “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!” (Mt 6:22-23)
Questions: Have you allowed trauma or pressure to keep you from letting God’s light in? Where is your focus? Are you connecting with God? Look at Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:22-23. How do you interpret this truth? How are you letting God’s light in?
Prayer: Gracious God, help me to keep the main thing, the main thing…my eyes on you. Forgive my bent toward distraction and keep my eyes and my heart filled with your light! Thank you for Jesus, The Light of The World! In His precious Name I pray, amen!
