WHO R U • Who’s Who – 8/28/22

When I think of a masterpiece I think of a created work of art…a painting, sculpture, or some other artistic expression that has been born from the mind of its creator. Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. He was pleased with all of his creation, then on the 6th day he created humanity and when he looked at all he had made, he said it was VERY good! It was a masterpiece! When we look around we see a lot that doesn’t seem VERY good, a lot of destruction and sorrow have been caused by the people that God created on purpose for a purpose, which they evidently have failed to find and accept. Without Jesus there is something wrong with us, a lot wrong, and we are in trouble. Our natural inclination is to sin. But in Christ we can live up to the purpose and potential God placed within us. His creation is thought out, everything about you was known by God before you were born. His purpose and plan was put in place before you were formed in your mother’s womb. You are a masterpiece straight from the mind of the great Creator of the universe.

Scriptures – 1 Peter 2:9; John 10:10; Exodus 4:10; Ephesians 2:1-2, 10; Psalm 139:13-16; 2 Peter 1:3; Romans 8:28; Isaiah 62:3

Verse – You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people… (1 Peter 2:9) For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10) We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. (2 Peter 1:3)

Thought – Scripture says, “For we are God’s masterpiece.”(Ep 2:10) Amazing! It’s hard to feel like a masterpiece. Even as Christians, we often feel as though we are far less. When you consider your failures, perhaps in the workplace, in relationships, in your character, and as a follower of Christ, you may shake your head in wonderment that God would consider you to be his masterpiece! As we get older, our bodies fail us and we can’t do the things we once did. Our hair turns gray, wrinkles appear, and we feel that our days of great potential are past. Yet, God sees us in light of the purpose for which we were created. You aren’t a masterpiece because of anything you have done, attained or accomplished. You are a masterpiece because of what God has done through his work on the cross in Christ Jesus. You have been made new through Christ’s blood and you are a new creation, made to live in relationship with God and fulfil his purpose for your life. Scripture says he has given us all we need to live a life that pleases him. Receive it and continue to strive toward the potential God sees!

Questions – What is something you consider to be a masterpiece? What affect does seeing a masterpiece have on you? What’s the most awe-inspiring thing you have ever seen? Do you believe you are God’s masterpiece? Explain. How does God’s call for humility and knowing your value as God’s creation mesh or conflict in your mind?

Response – Write down 10 things that about yourself that are positive and bring joy to you and to others. Work in your gifts. You are unique. No one else’s ability is needed to do what you were designed to do.

Prayer – Dear God, thank you for your unique plan for my life. Guide me to fulfill the purpose you have in mind. Give me strength and confidence and yet help me to be humbly aware of all you have done for me. In Jesus Name I pray, amen.
