MISSION: POSSIBLE • Your Mission – 4/27/25
Everyone is created for a purpose, and while the mission God gives you may seem impossible, it is achievable with God’s help. Jesus’ words from Matthew 19:26 remind us: “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
Nehemiah, a highly dedicated head of security for King Artaxerxes of Persia, protected the king from potential poisoning, a common threat in ancient times. Despite being Jewish, Nehemiah was chosen for this prestigious and dangerous position due to his stellar reputation and high character.
Nehemiah’s life took a dramatic turn when he learns about the dire state of Jerusalem, his hometown. The walls and gates of the city are destroyed, leaving its inhabitants vulnerable and living in constant fear. This news deeply affects Nehemiah, leading him to mourn and pray for days. He feels a profound sense of responsibility and is moved to take action to rebuild the city.
When God calls us, it demands full obedience, and He uses the passion and frustration that grips our hearts to clarify the mission. Examples include Thomas Jefferson, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr., who all faced significant challenges and made great sacrifice to persevere and make a difference.
Nehemiah has a respected position and is in personal contact with the king on a daily basis. He knows the king will discern his troubled condition and is afraid of how the king may respond. As expected, the king asks Nehemiah what is wrong. When Nehemiah responds with the devastating news, the king asks what he can do to help. With this door of opportunity open, Nehemiah makes three bold requests: a leave of absence, signed travel documents, and supplies for the project. Nehemiah knows he’s risking everything, but God stirs the king’s heart and grants Nehemiah’s requests. When God calls and we respond obediently, God provides the necessary support and resources to accomplish the mission.
Some people have no mission and no clue. It’s time to ask God what He wants you to do. Pray, seek answers, and follow in obedience. Others started a mission but fell away because of some distraction. Maybe they were hurt, or discouraged, but whatever the reason, it’s time to get back on track. Others are faithfully working in their mission, holding fast and trusting God. For those people, keep in mind Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:9. There is a reward, a promise of fulfillment in the long haul. The journey may be challenging, but with God’s power, protection, and provisions, anything is possible.

Questions – Have you ever felt a profound sense of responsibility to take on some task? How do passion and frustration clarify one’s mission? Have you ever made bold requests in pursuit of a mission? Can you identify your mission? If not, what steps can you take to identify and pursue your mission?
Prayer – Dear Lord, help me recognize the mission You have placed in my heart and give me the courage to pursue it with passion and determination. Help me to be faithful knowing that You will provide the necessary support and resources to accomplish Your will. Thank you for the plan you have for me. Help me to live in it with unwavering confidence in Your strength. In Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
