Devotional for Week of December 29, 2013
Scripture
Luke 24:13-35
Verse
The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. Luke 24:20-21 NIV
Thought
Christmas is the season when we hope for the right family celebration and the right presents for those we love. We hope for peace in our lives and peace on earth. It’s a wonderful thing to have hope and we all need it. Sadly, many people have put their hope in the wrong things. When we put our hope in anyone or anything other than Jesus Christ we can be disappointed and suffer the consequences of that misplaced hope.
Question
What have you put your hope in that has turned out to be a disappointment for you or your family?
Response
Ask God to help you place your hope in Him and not the things in this life that can disappoint us and let us down.
Prayer
Thank you heavenly Father that your word says you are good to those whose hope is in you. Help me to not hope in the wrong things but hope in you today and throughout 2014.
