Atomic Brain Invasion • Zombieland  – 9/28/25

We’re living in a time where negativity is invading minds like an alien force—robbing us of peace, joy, and hope. As followers of Christ, we’re not of this world, and we’re called to live and think differently. The battle for our minds is real, and we must be intentional about what we allow to shape our thoughts. Negativity isn’t just a bad mood—it’s destructive. It ruins relationships, families, teams, and even faith communities. We may not be able to control everything around us, but we can protect what gets into our minds.

Negativity is everywhere…on the news, in our feeds, and often in our conversations. But the truth is, what we look for is what we’ll find. Like a buzzard searches for what’s dead and a hummingbird seeks out nectar, our minds tend to find what they’re searching for, whether good or bad. Scripture tells us that if we seek good, we will find favor. Optimism isn’t some mantra or an exercise in positive thinking—it’s rooted in the confidence that our loving God is working in all things for our good.

Paul reminds us that our thoughts direct our lives. If we’re constantly feeding on worry, fear, and anxiety, then our lives will reflect that. But when we focus on God’s truth, hope begins to rise. Scripture calls us to renew our minds and set them on things of the Spirit—because that leads to life and peace. Feeding your faith, limiting negative input, and staying rooted in God’s Word helps reframe your outlook on everything.

Even in suffering, Paul had hope; he believed that future glory far outweighs present troubles. God is working, even when we don’t see it. The Bible says that God’s Spirit helps us in our weakness. When we don’t know how to pray, He intercedes on our behalf. So don’t lower your expectations—raise them. Believe that God can do exceedingly more than you ask or imagine. You may be waiting for things to be normal again…waiting and waiting. You need to recognize that this is normal; this is life. But with God, there’s a better kind of normal—one full of strength, purpose, and perspective. Fight for your mind. Protect it. Starve the negativity, feed your faith, and remember that nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

Scriptures –1 Peter 2:11 (Voice); Proverbs 11:27 (NLT); Romans 8:28 (NIV); Proverbs 4:23 (GNT); Romans 8:1, 6, 18 (NRSVUE), 26 (CEV), 38-39 (NRSVUE)

Verses – Beloved, remember you don’t belong in this world. You are resident aliens living in exile…. (1 Pe 2:11) If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you! (Pr 11:27) Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts, (Pr 4:23) To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. (Ro 8:6)

Discussion  How does your mindset (positive or negative) shape your day-to-day experiences, relationships, and spiritual growth? What are some common sources of negativity in your daily life, and how do they impact your thoughts, emotions, and faith? Romans 8:28 says that “in all things God works for the good…” How does this verse challenge or encourage you when you’re going through a difficult situation? In what practical ways can you “feed your faith and starve the negativity”?
